What our staff say about Bremerton High School

I love the way the community shows up and supports our school in a multitude of ways: volunteering on field trips, in classrooms, as AVID mentors, as coaches, on advisory panels, and as spectators at the various community-facing activities at the school. I know that I can count on many community members to be there for any of my students, and that makes it feel like family. Bremerton is a special place for me because I get to teach with my sister, and it is where both of us started our careers. Bremerton values family and the sense of community, and that is why I love it here! Photo: Mrs. Faxon (far left with Ms blue jacket) with AVID mentors.

When I think about why I love being part of the Bremerton School District and Bremerton High School communities, I immediately think of one word: family. When you walk through the halls of any of our district schools, you immediately know that whether you’re a teacher, a student, a volunteer, one of the many hard-working support staff, or a visitor, you are part of a team. No matter what challenges you face, there are others walking beside you to support you. I consider myself very lucky because the diversity that we embrace here in Bremerton allows me to continue to remain a learner alongside my students. They teach me so much every day. One of the things I’ve learned from my students is that no matter how much others underestimate us, together, we can achieve anything. Photo: Ms. Callender with her grandson, a BHS student.

I love how the Bremerton School District works for its students to give them the tools that they need for any future. The district provides opportunities for students regardless of what they want to do after high school and the tools they need to make that future work. My program is well supported which enables my students to do incredible things, from designing robots to building boats. Working for BSD, you can make a material difference in the lives of your students.

As a teacher at Bremerton High School, I get to work with our amazing students every single day. Our students are hard working and inspiring overcomers who show perseverance and grit. Our students are fiercely proud and loyal to our school and community. Our students see our diversity as a strength, and this fosters a high degree of empathy and caring for others. Our students are why I wake up each and every morning excited to come to school. Our students are what I love most about working for the Bremerton School District.
