A message from your superintendent

Hello BSD Community,

As another school year comes to a close, our hallways have grown quieter, but the work continues.

While students enjoy a well-deserved summer break, our facilities, maintenance, and custodial teams are hard at work preparing schools for the year ahead. Across the district, we'll also continue making progress on our new school construction projects and planning for another great year of learning.

I want to thank our incredible staff for their dedication, care, and commitment to students throughout the year. The difference they make in the lives of our kids is immeasurable, and I am grateful for all they do.

To our students, families, and community, I hope your summer is filled with rest, adventure, and time with those you care about most. Let’s get outside as much as possible!

Thank you for a wonderful year. We'll see you again in August.

Dr. Slade McSheehy
Superintendent

That's a wrap! School’s out for summer! 🎉

Leadership announcement

As we prepare for the 2026-27 school year, I am pleased to share two leadership assignments that will strengthen our secondary schools and support continued success for students.

Effective July 1, Jerry Fong will transition from Mountain View Middle School to Bremerton High School as Assistant Principal, and John Prosser will transition from Bremerton High School to Mountain View Middle School as Assistant Principal.

Both Jerry and John are respected leaders who are invested in every student’s success and the success of our staff and school communities. Each brings valuable experience and unique strengths that will serve their new school well.

I am excited about the opportunities these transitions create for both Bremerton High School and Mountain View Middle School and look forward to the positive impact Jerry and John will continue to have in their new roles.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support of Bremerton School District.

Dr. Slade McSheehy
Superintendent

John Prosser
John Prosser has served as Assistant Principal at Bremerton High School for three years. Prior to joining the Bremerton School District, he was a teacher in the Puyallup School District, an assistant principal in the Bethel School District, and a teacher and instructional facilitator for Tacoma Public Schools. Focused on building strong relationships with students, family, staff, and the community, Mr. Prosser believes that all students deserve to feel welcomed, safe, and cared for at school. Mr. Prosser is a proud dad to three children, and enjoys playing guitar, singing, drawing, graphic design, and cooking delicious meals for family and friends.
Jerry Fong
Jerry Fong joined the Bremerton School District in fall 2023 as assistant principal at Mountain View Middle School. Prior to joining BSD, he taught CTE business and computer science, coached football, and served as a dean of students at both the middle and high school levels for the Franklin Pierce School District. His core values center deeply around student equity, ensuring that every student, family, and staff member feels safe, welcomed, and valued within the school community. Jerry lives in Port Orchard with his wife, three children, and two dogs, and is a dedicated fan of the UW Huskies and Seattle Seahawks.

District earns national award for student-shaped rebranding

The Bremerton School District has been honored with a prestigious Golden Achievement Award from the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) for our recent districtwide rebranding initiative. Launched after more than 40 years with the same logo , the 18-month project was driven by community research to build a modern visual identity that honors our history while signaling our commitment to the future.

True to our core values, our students were at the heart of this creative process. Two Bremerton High School graphic design classes used a custom curriculum to develop more than 20 original logo concepts , providing the foundational themes that a professional brand strategist refined into our final, polished identity system.

The resulting design proudly retains our legacy Navy Blue and Bremerton Gold color palette and is being integrated across our website, publications, and building signage. Thank you to our student designers, staff, and families who helped shape a brand that truly reflects the spirit and future of Bremerton! Learn more about our new brand here.

Golden Achievement entries are rigorously judged by experienced, award-winning, and accredited public relations professionals from across the country. This national recognition reflects our commitment to clear, professional, and engaging communication with our families and community stakeholders.

BHS musicians shine at prestigious All-State performances

Seven Bremerton High School music students recently participated in the Washington All-State Choirs and Wind Symphony. Over the weekend, our students engaged in intense, collaborative rehearsals alongside the top high-caliber high school musicians from across the state, culminating in a series of spectacular concerts.

This elite experience challenges our student-musicians to perform at the highest level and brings valuable skills back to our school ensembles.

Please join us in celebrating these outstanding student musicians:

  • All-State Choir: Avery Estano, Riley Gardner, Lihla Hanson, Lina Kuball, Ayden Parks, and Lexi Smith

  • All-State Wind Symphony: Julia Vezina (Trombone)

Spring Sports Highlights

Our Bremerton High School student-athletes excelled both on the field and in the classroom this spring. Demonstrating incredible dedication to their studies alongside their athletic commitments, an impressive 85 Knights were named Olympic League Scholar-Athletes for maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher—representing a remarkable 33% of our entire spring sports roster!

Below are some highlights for all spring sports. We also invite you to view the presentations given at recent board meetings for MVMS spring sports and BHS spring sports

Boys Soccer

The Knights boys soccer team finished 5th in a highly competitive Olympic League to punch their ticket to the postseason. The team advanced to the District playoffs, where they went head-to-head in a hard-fought, energetic match against Clover Park.

Beyond their success on the pitch, the Knights made significant strides in their team dynamics, dramatically improving their on-field sportsmanship and finishing the entire season with only a single player ejection. Through resilience, teamwork, and a deep respect for their opponents, this squad continues to build a positive and proud culture for Bremerton soccer.

Fast Pitch

The fastpitch team made tremendous progress this season, defying expectations despite a highly challenging league schedule. Entering the District Tournament as the #12 seed, the Knights shocked the brackets by defeating #6 seed Steilacoom in the opening round, ultimately finishing their postseason run 1-2 and earning the deep respect of teams and coaches across the region. As the season comes to a close, the program extends a special thank you to its seven graduating seniors, including three four-year letter winners who anchored the team's success.

Girls Tennis

The girls tennis program enjoyed a phenomenal season of growth and competitive success, with 27 athletes completing the season—including 13 talented first-year players. Leading the charge, Lucy Cao put on an incredible postseason run, placing 4th at the Olympic League Tournament and 3rd at Districts before capturing an 8th-place medal at the WIAA State Tournament!

Adding to the postseason excitement, the doubles duo of Charlize Cabig and Melanie Uhrich placed 6th at Leagues to punch their tickets to the District Tournament. Beyond the scoreboard, the entire roster demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship all spring long, consistently representing Bremerton with respect for opponents, coaches, and officials.

Golf

The BHS Boys Golf team had a fun season and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship throughout the year.

The Lady Knights golf team sent five golfers to the League Tournament, where sophomore Samantha Stevens placed 5th overall to secure a direct spot at the State Tournament. Teammates Daffnie Ellicot-Farmer and Macey Rotter also earned top finishes to advance to Districts. At State, Samantha shot a phenomenal 97 on Day 1 to advance to the final round of competition.

Remarkably, this marks the first time since 2018 that a Lady Knight has qualified for the State golf tournament! Fun fact: Multi-sport star Samantha also placed third at the WIAA state bowling tournament earlier this school year. Congratulations to the entire team!

Track & Field

Eleven Bremerton High School track and field athletes earned their spot at the WIAA State Tournament at Mt. Tahoma High School in Tacoma. Competing against the best student-athletes from across Washington, the Knights showed immense hard work and dedication. Please join us in celebrating our state competitors: Mecia Barrett, Camilla Herdman, and Kylan Shead - 4x100m Relay; Keith Bevers - Discus; Akialah Williams - Discus (5th at state); Kali Christian - Shot Put; Hawkin Ernst - 100m (8th at state); Luther Hamon - 110m & 300m Hurdles; India Robinson - Triple Jump ; Asher Stewart - 1600m; and Adaiya Thomas - 100m , 200m & 4x100m Relay.

Baseball

The Knights baseball team made huge strides this spring under first-year head coach Forrest Schindler. The team finished with eight victories and drastically improved from zero league wins last year to five league wins this season. This strong performance qualified the Knights for the District playoffs, where they battled hard against Port Angeles. Just as impressively, the team recorded zero ejections all season, demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship and building a fantastic, positive program culture for the future.

Boys Tennis

For the first time in 40 years, Bremerton High School sent two entries to the WIAA State Tennis Championships! Competing at the highest level, our athletes proved they belong among Washington's best.

In the doubles division, Eli Warner and Lucian Headley kicked off the state tournament with a dominant 2-0 opening-round win against Selah, finishing their hard-fought run at 1-2. In singles play, Joseph Cao showed incredible resilience, bouncing back from a tough opening match to secure a clutch victory over East Valley Yakima, ending his state tournament appearance at 1-2. Finishing the season as state qualifiers is an incredible milestone—you make BTown proud!

*The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) officially classifies boys tennis as a spring sport. For scheduling reasons, the boys tennis season is in the fall, but State Championships are held in late May.
